Adam's Peak / Silver Needle - Ratunapura
Adam's Peak / Silver Needle - Ratunapura
A rare tea produced in the mountainous region of Nuwara Eliya region. A silver needle grade made only by plucking terminal buds which have a silver downy fuzz on the leaves. The tea cultivar is from the assamica subspecies, which makes this white tea vastly different in flavour over Chinese white teas. And yes, Adam’s Peak is expensive, it is four to six times the cost of other pedigree white teas.
The leaves of this tea are thin needle like buds that are plucked with extreme precision. Great care is taken to avoid any damage or bruising to a leaf, even down to how the bud is snapped from the branch.
The aroma of the steeped leaves is of creamed honey, and flavour of the liquor is reminiscent of pine and hay with a sweet honey finish.
Quality white tea, like this, will infuse for numerous steepings, all depending on the length and temperature of each. The tea needs time to infuse, so let it sit until the leaves start to stand vertical.
