Alishan Gaoshan / Alishan High Mountain - Nantou
阿里山高山 (Ālǐ shān gāoshān) Alishan High Mountain
Gaoshan / high mountain tea includes several varieties of Oolong tea grown in the mountains of central Taiwan higher than 1,000 metres. The Alishan is the largest mountain range of Taiwan located in the central-southern region of Taiwan, consisting of 18 mountains. The name Ali Shan seems to be taken from the word "Alit", which in several Taiwanese indigenous languages means "ancestor mountain"
This tea has been hand-picked, and processed, and some of the stems have been left on. The colour of the curled leaves are deep jade with floral aromas. It has been lightly roasted, which adds a lightly toasted note. Once steeped, the infusion has a light buttery taste, sweet and rich mouthfeel, and lasting floral notes.
