Jungpana Estate 1st Flush - Darjeeling (org)
Darjeeling teas are unique amongst black teas. The region itself is found in the foothills of the Himalayas, which creates a harsh environment for growing, but can in turn produce complex flavours. First Flush refers to the first budding of leaves in the spring after a winter dormancy, when the leaves have the strongest aromatics. These Darjeeling’s are withered to a very low moisture contents which only allows a light oxidation - almost green in hue.
Quality First Flush Darjeeling teas have a recognizable muscatel flavour of sweet grapes. This tea is from one of Darjeeling’s most prized and well known gardens.
This lot has flavours of dry wood, fruit and nuts, with hints of sourdough. The liquor leaves a dry astringency in the mouth, followed by a fruity sweetness and floral nose. The infusion colour itself is that of golden straw. A perfect tea to introduce First Flush Darjeeling to a new drinker!
In Nepali language, Jungpana means the “Fountain Head” or “Source of Mahaldi”, a name given to the ridge near Kurseong because that river rises below it.
