Elderberries, air dried

Sambucus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae. The various species are commonly called elder or elderberry.

Elderberries are a nutritious super-fruit packed with vitamin C, dietary fiber, and antioxidants. They have a long of history being used in traditional and Ayurvedic medicine. Just like apple seeds, the seeds of the elderberry contains cyanogenic glycoside. Do not eat the berries raw, always cook or boil them in water before consuming. The berries are edible after cooking and may be used to make jam, jelly, or tea. Cooking with heat will completely destroy the “glycosides” which induce cyanide.
