Sencha - Kagoshima
Sencha - Kagoshima
煎茶 Sencha 鹿児島 県 Kagoshima Prefecture
Sencha production accounts for 60% of the tea produced in Japan. It is commonly grown using the Yabukita cultivar. Sencha, along with other teas from Japan, is a sun grown tea, and like all Japanese green teas, is steamed to preserve the leaf colour and flavour. The leaves are picked and steamed as quickly as possible to prevent oxidation, then rolled into the well-known needle shape. Higher quality senchas will be smaller and thinner leaves, while lower grades will be larger and wider particles.
This sencha is a good or house grade perfect for daily drinking. A very good quality Sencha with bright colour with refreshing taste. The tea steeps with a bright yellow green infusion with sweet vegetal taste and aroma. This tea is from the Kagoshima prefecture.
Blenders Notes: I really love this Sencha. It is a great quality at a reasonable price point to allow for daily drinking. Sencha can be either of very poor quality, looking dry and dull or can be of such quality that it gets very expensive to enjoy on a regular basis. This Sencha hits the sweet point of good quality, great colour, and accessible pricing. Be sure to follow the steeping guide for all Japanese teas, as they are more delicate than herbal or black. It is important to use cooler water and a quick steep time for best flavour.
