茉莉玉银针 (Mòlì yù yín zhēn) Jasmine Silver Needle
This jasmine-infused white tea is made from both the tender terminal bud and the newly opened second leaf, creating a slightly greener and more complex flavour. Traditionally produced in Fujian, white tea is now also grown in Yunnan, where the local DaYe (Big Leaf) variety offers a distinct character.
The tea leaves are carefully withered, often sun-dried on bamboo trays, until fully dry. For its jasmine infusion, unopened jasmine flowers are handpicked early in the day to preserve their natural fragrance. Overnight, they are layered with the tea, allowing the blossoms to impart their scent as they bloom. By morning, the flowers are removed and replaced with fresh ones, a process repeated four times to achieve a balanced yet aromatic jasmine infusion.
Compared to the more traditional terminal bud Silver Needle, this tea has a greener taste with a slightly fuller body. The infusion is fresh and floral, with a silky-smooth texture and lingering jasmine sweetness.
