About the utensils:
Bamboo Whisk:
A bamboo matcha whisk, also known as chasen or 茶筅 (tea whisk) is made from hand using a carbon knife to split the bamboo rod into over 80 tines and shaped and curled into an iconic trapezoidal shape. A matcha whisk is one of the key accessories in matcha preparation and as such, it is vital to have the right kind and quality to make a good matcha. A traditional bamboo chasen is used to mix the Matcha powder with hot water without lumps, and produces a creamy, delicious froth.
Bamboo Scoop:
One of the most important tools in preparation of matcha is the chashaku or literally means “tea scoop” in Japanese. This is a small and narrow tea ladle with a curved, rounded tip and reaching just the point where the chashaku starts to bend. With its very utilitarian design, it is used to scoop the powder and measure the right amount of tea powder, guarantees some measure of control over the prospective brew, and helps to portion out the equal scoops to make a matcha drink into the chawan (茶碗) or the tea bowl used for preparing and drinking green tea.
Whisk Holder:
Whisk holder, known as Kuse Naoshi helps maintain your whisk by allowing the whisk to dry naturally and prevent the whisk from molding by allowing for better air circulation while keeping the shape of the tines. This holder is the ideal way to prolong the life of your Matcha whisk.
Tea Sieve/Sifter:
The use of a Matcha sifter is recommended to make the Matcha powder fine and free of any lumps, so that you can create the best, sweetest bowl of Matcha possible.
PC brand Starter Bowl:
A chawan (茶碗; literally "tea bowl") is a bowl used for preparing and drinking tea. Although this is not a traditional matcha bowl, it is a affordable add on to this set. This allows the beginner to dive into Matcha without the added expense of a hand thrown Japanese bowl until they are ready to choose one for themselves! After gaining some experience with Matcha, a person can purchase a bowl (or several!) that reflects their own tea experience and personal esthetic. There is absolutely no right or wrong in choosing a Matcha Chawan. We sell a few on this site you can check out!
Blue Jade Chawan:
This original chawan, (matcha bowl) robust and wide-bottomed, is a great choice for both novices and expert matcha lovers. Wider chawans facilitate the movement of the Chasen and give extra room to properly dissolve and whisk the matcha, for a perfect emulsion.
Deep Soil Chawan:
