包种 (Bāo zhǒng) Wrapped Package
Baozhong also referred to as Pouchong (pronounced pow-chong), is a light oxidized oolong tea, typically between 8%~18%. Baozhong is considered a “green oolong tea” as it is mildly grassy and oceanic in aroma, like a green tea. Baozhong Oolong is produced in the northern part of Taiwan and predominantly in the Pinglin District of New Taipei. The name Baozhong literally translates to “the wrapped kind”; Traditionally, loose leaf oolong was then wrapped with a square rice paper, typically stamped with the tea company seals.
The harvest style for Baozhong is two~three leaves plus the tea bud. The dry tea leaves are about a inch in length and are naturally twisted and dried. The colour of the infused leaves is emerald green, and the liquor is a pale honey yellow and jade green, bright in color, and clear like water. Steeped Baozhong leaves give off a floral and melon fragrance, reminiscent of white lily flowers, and has a rich, mild taste.
